The Opportunity

The Safety Coordinator will report to the Safety Director and is responsible for implementing workplace environmental, safety, and health programs at Gildan Yarns facilities.

Key Areas of Responsibility

 

  • Implements action plans, processes, and procedures to control EH&S risks and for achieving compliance to the Gildan safety and environmental policies, corporate EH&S guidelines, and improvement initiatives.
  • Conducts assessments that identify hazards and reduce risk including but not limited to hazard identification & risk assessments, pre-startup safety review, job safety analysis, PPE, machine guarding, and hazardous energy.
  • Conducts training in all aspects of EH&S to ensure compliance with legal and Gildan requirements and in a manner that positively engages employee behaviors.
  • Works collaborative to support incident reviews and develop/implement corrective/preventative actions.
  • Coaches all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that that builds and sustains a safety culture consistent with Gildan’s values.
  • Supports industrial hygiene evaluations sufficient to identify hazards, risks, and trends.
  • Participates in internal audits/inspections.
  • Supports safety programs for contractors and construction projects.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations.
  • Support other initiatives as assigned by the Safety Director
  • Requires supporting occasional activities that occur outside the normal weekday work hours including nights and weekends.
  • Requires general supervision but works independently to solve most problems on basis of examining pertinent facts.  Gathers information independently using established and well-defined procedures. Obtains supervisory input to resolve new types of problems.

Profile & Core Competencies

  • Intermediate level of knowledge t in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Etc.)
  • CPR/First-Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certification and accreditation preferred
  • Experience in safety related field within manufacturing and office area environments
  • Knowledge of safety related topics including but not limited to:  Arc Flash, Haz-Com/SDS, Blood Borne Pathogens, Emergency Evacuation, Work Place Violence, Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skill needed
  • Able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and effectively
  • Able to assimilate information rapidly and effectively
  • Must be able to work independently and to self-manage coordination duties
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill required
  • Able to present information to multi-level associates during training presentations
  • Able to work in confidential environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively
  • Hearing is required in order to hear instructions, receive information from various sources, and understand safety warnings
  • Vision is required in order to read instructions, interpret data, and formulate metrics
