The Opportunity

The Manager of Wintel is responsible for Gildan’s global Windows server and enterprise storage services.  (S)he leads a team responsible for designing, building and supporting wintel and storage solutions including recommending the appropriate mix of in-house and cloud-based solutions.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Manages the engineering team responsible for wintel and storage design, implementation and support;
  • Ensures continuous, secure operations of wintel and storage solutions by owning procedures, patching, metrics, root cause analysis, disaster recovery plans/tests and security controls for in-house and cloud-based wintel and storage services;
  • Provides the helpdesk, operations center and other supporting functions training and documentation sufficient to address day-to-day issues so that the engineering team maintains focus on developing new capabilities and continuous improvement;
  • Owns Wintel and storage hardware standards, standard server images, server monitoring tools, server and storage capacity plans, global file and print services and related datacenter standards, including our strategy and roadmap for leveraging cloud Wintel and storage capabilities;
  • Hires, trains, mentors and evaluates employees;
  • Manages relationships with third-party service providers and consultants including vendor selection, incident escalation and evaluation;
  • Works with our PMO and IT functions to implement cross-functional capabilities;
  • Keeps functional areas of our business satisfied by ensuring IT solutions meet current and future Gildan business requirements.
     

Profile & Core Competencies

  • Seven to ten years experience in IT infrastructure/architecture, with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role;
  • A college degree preferably in Information Technology or equivalent, with a bachelor’s degree a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills in both English & French;
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019)
    • VMWare 6.5
    • Exchange 2010, Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint
    • Active Directory GPOs and SCCM CB
    • Server hardware (HP, Cisco UCS server, UCS fabric interconnect)
    • Storage (IBM V7000 and Flash 900, EMC VNX systems, Cisco HCI, Brocade Fiber Channel)
    • High availability and DRP/backup solutions (VM stretch cluster, IBM Metro Mirror, Commvault);
  • Good working knowledge of networking and security tools and concepts a plus (ACI, Okta MFA, proxy, PCI compliance, server hardening, LAPS);
  • Microsoft (MCSE or other) and Cisco Hyper Converge certification a plus;
  • Enjoys hands-on management in a high-paced environment;
  • Plans well, anticipating need (capacity planning, project planning, etc);
  • Operates collaboratively across functions with complete transparency, in quest of the best answer for our company regardless of technology implications;
  • Mobilizes, motivates, influences and proactively bringing the appropriate parties into conversation when needed;
  • Excels in troubleshooting and leading other troubleshooters;
  • Intellectually curious, insisting on understanding root causes and discovering process improvements;
  • Able to multitask and manage changing priorities;
  • Loves technology and working with others.
