The Opportunity

The Sr EH&S Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing EH&S programs throughout Gildan's US based yarn spinning operations and distribution centers.



Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Directly supports the Regional Director, EH&S with establishing and improving the EH&S Management System including procedures, training, auditing as well as other key areas.
  • Assimilate and articulate requirements from legal entities (e.g., OSHA, EPA, Fire Code, etc.) and other international, US, and local organizations such as ANSI, NFPA, Property Insurance Provider, etc.)
  • Develops procedures and processes that enables the EH&S Team and Operational Teams to achieve a high level of compliance and a culture of Zero Harm.
  • Collaborates with and coaches site level EH&S staff such as but not limited to conducting technical training, train-the-trainer, prepare for and conduct internal audits, facilitating industrial hygiene evaluation, etc.
  • Established processes that evaluate compliance to legal requirements and conformance to other applicable requirements such as corporate policies, property insurance carrier guidelines, etc.
  • Setup and maintain US based EH&S management information systems (EMIS); collaborate with other company resources who directly manage specific Global EMIS applications
  • Coaches all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that that builds and sustains a safety culture consistent with Gildan’s values.
  • Conduct or support industrial hygiene evaluations sufficient to identify hazards, risks, and trends.
  • Coordinates & serve as a lead internal EH&S auditor for the Internal EH&S Audit Program
  • Assembles and communicates key EH&S performance metrics
  • Ensures EH&S documents & records requirements and methods are established and maintained.
  • Prepares and presents periodic EH&S Management System Reviews with key leaders
  • Support other initiatives as assigned by the Regional Director, EH&S

Profile & Core Competencies

Position Requirements:

  •  B.S., Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Chemistry, Engineering; other degrees in the Physical Sciences  will be considered in conjunction with EH&S coursework, certifications, & experience
  • 5 years of EH&S experience implementing EH&S management systems in an environment that has created a positive safety culture embracing Zero Harm. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing.

Travel Requirements:
 Interfacing with others via audio & video conferencing will be highly encouraged when appropriate. When travel is required, in some cases can be accomplished in day trips.   Occasionally, overnight travel is necessary and estimated to occur up to 15 % of the time. 

Additional Skills, Training, & Certifications

The following are not required but will be considered a plus:

  • Obtained or working towards a relevant certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.)
  • Master's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Chemistry, Engineering
  • Experience implementing EH&S systems consistent with ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and/or ISO 45001 & experience implementing and managing EH&S manage information systems
  • Achieved or substantial progress toward achieving an EH&S certification such as ASP, CSP, or other relevant certification.
